In the ongoing Race to Get In Shape program, Sara and I got race #2 of 2017 in the books with the Chilly Half Marathon. Although a sunny day, this was a cold one! I, for one, love the heat – my body responds better to it. The cold is not my friend. Anyway, we paid our money so we toe the line. With the wind direction on race day it worked out nicely. We went into the wind heading into Oakville up to the turnaround at around the 13k. The remainder home was a tailwind. My goal for the race was to follow the 1:45 pace bunny for as long as possible. I did just that up until the 17k point and I started to lose contact – I went through a tired spell at this point. I couldn’t reel the bunny in but he was not too far ahead. I felt better at 19k so I pushed for home. Pumped by the nice crowd in downtown Burlington I pushed for the line and finished in 1:44:31. Not bad given my level of fitness and lack of tempo training – I will definitely take it! Sara did amazing as well. I saw her at the turnaround and she was not far off. She is a tough cookie! I did not wait long for her at the finish – she cruised through in 1:49:06. Sub 1:50 baby!!
Post race included a family bowl then on to Baci restaurant for some pizza and beverages. They were dee-lish!
Finally, a new addition to the household. I picked up this Felt B12 at the bike show. I tried going with a small sized frame the last few years with my Trek but never felt like it worked for me. I’m back ti a 54 and loving it! I feel like I get more power and the comfort level is an improvement. I’ve been able to sell my Trek so all is good. Come on warm weather – cheers!
